Role of PSW / Health Care Aide (NOC 33102)

PSWs / Health Care Aides (NOC 33102) are vital members of the health care team. Working under the supervision of RNs and RPNs, they provide direct patient care based on individualized care plans.

They collaborate with nursing and specialized services to deliver safe, compassionate, and comprehensive care across multiple areas, including:

Dementia and Alzheimer’s care
Stroke recovery
Diabetes management
Parkinson’s disease
Palliative care
Nursing Services: Post-hospitalization care, chronic disease management, IV therapy, wound care, and senior wellness checks

Specialized Services: Alzheimer’s and dementia support (personal care, companionship, caregiver relief), dietitian services, foot care, and occupational therapy for daily living and adaptive equipment

• Salary: $23.82 hourly / 40 hours per week

Overview

• Experience: 2 Years of experience
• Work location: On site (no remote option)

 

Responsibilities-Tasks include:

 

Report directly to medical professionals – RN, RPN
Measure and record patients’ blood pressure, temperature, and pulse
Track fluid intake and output
Observe patients’ condition and document care in charts or electronic records
Provide first aid in emergencies within scope of competencies
Assist with oral medications and provide medication reminders
Support ambulation using cane, walker, wheelchair, Sara Steady, Hoyer lift, and other assistive devices
Maintain and operate transfer equipment (cane, walker, wheelchair, Sara Steady, Hoyer lift, and other assistive devices)
Assist in transferring patients from bed to chair and vice versa
Assist with urinary catheter care (changing and draining)
Bathe patients (sponge, tub, or bed bath) and assist with personal care including dressing, toileting, peri care, and diaper changes
Serve meals, feed or assist with feeding, and support menu selection
Weigh, lift, turn, and position patients
Supervise exercise routines, organize leisure activities, and accompany patients on outings
Support clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including meal preparation, laundry, dishwashing, and light housekeeping
Maintain and operate transfer equipment (wheelchairs, beds, lifts) and other job-related tools
Keep inventory of supplies
·         Promote a safe environment for clients and staff
