Job Title
Accounting Technician / Bookkeeper (NOC 12200)
Position Summary
Accounting technicians and bookkeepers maintain comprehensive financial records, verify transaction procedures, and deliver personal bookkeeping services, serving both public and private sectors or operating as self-employed professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
This role may include, but is not limited to:
- Maintaining and balancing financial records using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems. • Posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, and preparing trial balances and general ledgers.
- Preparing financial statements and other reports.
- Calculating and preparing cheques for payroll, utility, tax, and other obligations.
- Completing and submitting tax remittances, workers’ compensation forms, pension contributions, and other government documents.
- Preparing personal bookkeeping services and tax returns. • Generating statistical, financial, and accounting reports.
Employment Requirements:
Education:
- Completion of secondary school is required.
Post-Secondary Education:
- College diploma in accounting, bookkeeping, or related field OR
- First-level studies (two years) of a recognized professional accounting program (e.g., Chartered Accounting, Certified General Accounting) OR
- Accounting/bookkeeping courses paired with several years of experience as a financial or accounting clerk.
