About the Role

GT painting is seeking an experienced Painter to complete high-quality interior and exterior painting work in both residential and commercial settings while providing day-to-day guidance to a small crew. This is a hands-on position: the successful candidate will perform painting duties alongside the team and help coordinate safe, efficient completion of assigned projects.

Education: Completion of secondary school

Experience: At least 1 year of experience

 

Responsibilities

–              Review work orders, drawings and specifications to determine project requirements and required quantities of materials.

–              Coordinate daily tasks with the supervisor and assign work to painters, apprentices and helpers based on project priorities.

–              Prepare and clean surfaces by scraping, sanding, washing and removing loose paint or old wall coverings.

–              Repair cracks, holes and other surface imperfections, then apply primers, sealers and preparatory coatings.

–              Mix, match and thin paint to achieve the required colour, texture and consistency.

–              Apply paint, stain, lacquer, enamel, varnish and other finishes using brushes, rollers or spray equipment.

–              Measure, cut and install wallpaper, fabric or other wall coverings when required.

–              Protect floors, furniture, fixtures and surrounding areas before work begins.

–              Assemble, inspect and safely use ladders, scaffolding and other access equipment.

–              Work alongside the crew while providing instructions, demonstrating proper techniques and assisting less-experienced employees.

–              Monitor work in progress and inspect completed surfaces to ensure acceptable coverage, appearance and compliance with project specifications.

–              Track paint and supplies, report shortages and help control material waste.

–              Maintain and clean brushes, rollers, spray equipment, tools and work areas.

–              Promote safe work practices and assist with hazard assessments, toolbox talks and job-site inspections.

–              Coordinate routine site activities with clients, supervisors, other trades and site representatives.

–              Report project progress, delays, deficiencies, safety concerns and changes in scope to the supervisor.

–              Maintain basic records of work completed, employee hours and materials used.

–              Assist with material takeoffs, job measurements and cost estimates when required.

Work conditions and physical capabilities

–              Perform repetitive movements and remain standing for extended periods.

–              Regularly bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist while completing painting work

–              Lift, carry and handle tools, materials, equipment and paint containers

–              Work safely from ladders, scaffolding and elevated platforms.

–              Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.

–              Use required personal protective equipment and work around paint, dust, fumes and cleaning products.

 

Personal attributes

–              Previous experience guiding a crew, mentoring apprentices or coordinating job-site activities is preferred.

–              Demonstrated knowledge of surface preparation, colour matching and the application of architectural coatings.

–              Ability to interpret work orders, specifications and product instructions and estimate material requirements.

–              Experience using brushes, rollers, spray equipment, ladders and scaffolding safely.

–              Knowledge of workplace safety practices and the proper handling of paints, solvents and related products.

–              Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering a consistent, high-quality finish.

–              Ability to organize work, communicate clearly and provide respectful direction to team members.

–              Ability to work independently and collaboratively in occupied and active work environments.
