Job Summary

J&R is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to support its civil, architectural, and residential construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing construction plans, preparing cost estimates, conducting quantity take-offs, evaluating project costs, and coordinating with project management teams, suppliers, and contractors to ensure accurate and competitive project pricing.

The ideal candidate has experience in construction estimating, procurement, project coordination, and cost management, along with strong analytical and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities

Review construction drawings, plans, specifications, and project documents to determine project scope and requirements.
Prepare detailed construction cost estimates, quantity take-offs, budgets, and bid submissions.
Calculate and evaluate material, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
Obtain and review supplier and subcontractor quotations to support accurate pricing.
Coordinate with project managers, suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders to clarify project requirements and estimating assumptions.
Assist with purchasing, procurement, contract coordination, and material cost evaluation.
Maintain estimating databases, cost records, spreadsheets, and project documentation.
Monitor estimated project costs and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
Communicate cost estimates, pricing updates, project risks, and discrepancies to relevant stakeholders.
Support project planning and coordination to help ensure projects meet budgetary and operational requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

Relevant experience in construction estimating, project coordination, or a related construction field.
Knowledge of civil, architectural, and residential construction.
Experience estimating construction projects valued between $1.5 million and $4 million.
Experience in purchasing, procurement, and contracts.
Knowledge of construction drawings, quantity take-offs, cost calculations, and project budgeting.
Proficiency in construction estimating packages, databases, spreadsheets, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
Familiarity with AutoCAD and Sage Accounting Software.
Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with project teams, suppliers, and contractors.

Proficiency in PlanSwift construction estimating and digital quantity takeoff software is required. Applicants must have experience preparing construction cost estimates using PlanSwift.
