Job Summary:

We are seeking 8 skilled Restoration Stonemason’s to join our team dedicated to preserving and restoring historic and architectural stonework. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in masonry, renovation, and restoration techniques, with the ability to work with various tools and materials to restore stone structures to their original condition. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful preservation projects that require craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Tasks:

Prepare and lay bricks, concrete blocks, structural tiles or other masonry units.
Estimate materials, tools and equipment required for projects.
Lay bricks, stone or similar materials to provide veneer facing.
Build patios, garden walls and other decorative installations.
Read sketches and blueprints to calculate materials required.
Work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages.
Restore, clean or paint existing masonry structures.
Perform all forms of historic masonry repair, including dutchman repairs, consolidation, selective replacement, and mortar-based conservation treatments.
Fabricate new stone elements—both structural and decorative—using traditional and modern tooling.
Execute ornamental carving, sculptural details, mouldings, tracery, and other high-skill heritage elements from drawings, templates, or in-situ profiles.
Conduct condition assessments and assist in developing repair strategies aligned with best-practice conservation principles.
Work collaboratively with project managers, heritage consultants, and site crews to ensure accuracy, safety, and quality.
Maintain a clean, safe work environment and adhere to all safety protocols, including scaffold and hoisting procedures.
Support apprentices and junior masons through mentorship and skill development.

Skills:
Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment related to masonry and construction
Strong knowledge of masonry techniques, including stone carving, setting, and repair methods
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings accurately
Experience with renovation projects involving historic preservation or restoration work
Strong attention to detail with a focus on craftsmanship and quality workmanship
Excellent problem-solving skills related to structural repairs and restoration challenges

Education:
Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience.

Experience:
3 years to less than 5 years.

Work Setting:

Various locations in the HRM
Historical restoration.

Credentials:
Bricklayer Trade Certification or equivalent.
Restoration Stonemason Certification or equivalent.
NVQ Level 1, 2 &/or 3 or equivalent.

Additional Info:
-8 Positions available
– Full time, permanent position
– 44 Hours per week Mon-Fri
