Responsibilities

Tasks

Provide advisory services for staff and customers for growing requirements for plants in the perennial section of the greenhouse.
Supervise and coordinate the activities of staff within the main and growing greenhouses, nursery and greenhouse workers
Hire, supervise and schedule staff
Schedule daily tasks
Maintain records of stock and plant death.
Resolve work problems, provide technical advice and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality
Organize greenhouse and nursery operations
Delegate tasks to junior staff members.
Assist in the training of new staff in job duties, and health and safety procedures.
Train and supervise co-op students in both theory, and hands-on skills.
Resolve work problems by providing technical advice to increase the value and functionality of a property
Maintain work records and logs
Read blueprints and drawings
Requisition or order materials, equipment and supplies
Select and purchase merchandise for resale
Sell products on a retail and wholesale basis
Monitor environment and maintain optimum conditions
Plant and maintain plants
Assist in pruning trees, shrubs and plants
Select and transport material to work area manually or using crane or hoist
Monitor inventory levels of issued materials and stocks
Monitor movement of supplies and materials between departments
Monitor equipment to detect wear and damage
Repair and maintain equipment
Perform opening and closing activities
Greenhouse cleaning
Perform general farm duties
