We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic Early Childhood Assistant to support the daily activities of our learning academy. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with young children and committed to fostering a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment. This role involves assisting Early Childhood Educators in implementing age-appropriate activities, supporting children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development, maintaining a clean and organized classroom environment, and helping ensure the well-being of all children in care. The successful candidate will play an important role in creating meaningful learning experiences and supporting the continued success of Waves & Wonders Early Learning Academy.

Job Description:

The Early Childhood Assistant will support the daily educational and caregiving activities at Waves & Wonders Early Learning Academy and assist in promoting the healthy development and well-being of children. Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assist Early Childhood Educators in carrying out programs that promote children’s physical, cognitive, emotional and social development.
  • Assist in preparing and organizing materials and equipment for educational and recreational activities.
  • Support children during daily routines, including meals, snacks, rest periods and hygiene activities.
  • Assist with storytelling, music, arts and crafts, and other planned activities under the supervision of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play and during field trips, as directed.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean and organized classroom environment.
  • Observe children and report behavioural, developmental or health concerns to supervising educators.
  • Assist in keeping records related to children’s daily activities and routines.
  • Encourage positive interactions and support children’s social development.
  • Assist with setting up and cleaning activity areas, meals and equipment.
  • Follow all health, safety and licensing requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervising Early Childhood Educators.

Necessary Skills/Qualifications:

  • Completion of secondary school is required;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing;
  • Previous experience working with young children in a childcare setting is required;
  • Completion of an Early Childhood Education Assistant (ECEA) certificate program or post-secondary coursework in Early Childhood Education is required;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Patience, reliability, and a positive attitude when working with children.
