THE ROLE:
As a Machine Machinist, you will play a key role in the repair, development, and inspection of aviation engines and airframes. Our state of the art technologies will give you the opportunity to work in an environment that is an exciting, dynamic and fast-paced environment. Work is performed onsite on our North Vancouver site. THIS IS A UNION POSITION.
· Operate large and small manual machine tools and precision measuring equipment to manufacture and repair marine machinery components. (ie: tailshafts, rudder stocks, liners, custom bolts, and one off components).
· Disassemble old, rusty and seized equipment for cleaning and inspection, diagnose faults and failures, determine components to be repaired, determine repair processes and prepare documentation to allow any machinist to build new components, and assemble and test equipment.
· Assist in mechanical disassembly, measurements, reassembly in field conditions on ships and outside facilities.
· Perform routine maintenance on equipment and machinery used in the machining process.
· Maintain detailed records of work performed.
· Stay up to date on new technologies and processes.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Trade qualification in Machinist discipline is required
· 5 years’ work experience as a machinist.
· 1 years’ experience in a Marine specific role.
· Security and Background check required.
· Exceptional verbal and written English.
Skills and Competencies:
· Be able to operate all manner and size of manual machine tools, including lathes (up to 34-foot centers), vertical mills, horizontal boring mill, key-seaters, drill presses, hydraulic presses.
· Be able to read drawings, measure and prepare drawings and reports.
· Possess sound knowledge of machining processes and mechanical systems.
· Possess ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair mechanical systems,.
· Be familiar with hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical and electronic systems.
· Possess competency in other manufacturing disciplines (fabricating and welding) when coordinating manufacturing machine components involving other disciplines.
· Possess competency in hot, cryogenic and force fit processes to disassemble and assemble components with interference fits
· Possess ability to document and record work, final component details.
· Be physically fit. You will be required to board vessels (ie: climb stairways, vertical ladders, work at heights) and handle heavy components, securely tighten clamps, etc.
· Possess ability to learn, accept input from others and seek optimal solutions to solve custom machining problems.
· Possess attention to details.
· Be able to wear a respirator.
· Be able to undertake work from drawings as well as verbal instructions.
· Be able to communicate effectively with workers and customers.
· Be able to work at a high level of productivity and competency.
