Wescor Contracting Ltd. is seeking dependable Lather Apprentices (Interior Systems Mechanics) who are eager to learn to support the installation of interior wall and ceiling systems on commercial, industrial, tenant improvement, and custom residential projects. Candidates may be considered at various apprentice levels based on their experience, training, and skills. Working under the supervision of experienced installers and supervisors, apprentices will assist with a variety of interior systems installation tasks while developing their skills.

The key responsibilities of Lather Apprentices at Wescor Contracting Ltd. are outlined below.

  • Assist with site setup, material staging, surface preparation, and worksite cleanup.
  • Prepare wall and ceiling layouts under supervision and from blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Assist with assembling and installing suspended metal ceiling grids and placing ceiling panels.
  • Measure, mark, and cut framing materials, drywall sheets, and related products for installation.
  • Position and secure drywall sheets to metal or wooden studs or joists, and assist with taping joints and seams.
  • Apply and smooth plaster coats on interior surfaces
  • Assist with installing steel stud framing, furring channels, shaft wall systems, drywall, and suspended ceilings, including work on concrete substrates, according to drawings and specifications.
  • Cut openings in lath, drywall, and related wall and ceiling materials for vents, ducts, piping, and electrical outlets.
  • Assist with installing corner beads, trims, and other wall and ceiling system components.
  • Load, unload, move, sort, and store materials, tools, and equipment safely.
  • Follow workplace safety procedures, wear personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean and organized jobsite.
  •  Work cooperatively with supervisors, journeypersons, apprentices, and other trades to complete assigned tasks.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school.
  • One of the following qualifications is required:
  • Completion of a 3–4 year apprenticeship program in drywalling, lathing, or a related trade, or
  • A combination of over three years of directly related hands-on experience along with relevant high school, college, or industry-level training in drywalling, lathing, or a related field.
  • Additional trade-related training or enrollment in an apprenticeship program is an asset.

Employment Terms

  • Apprentice level may be determined based on skills, experience, and training.
